Black tar paper with acrylic paint.  I took a class from Kent Youngstrom.  My question to him was how to make sure there was a focal point.  His inspiring idea was this white rectangle.

The other advice that he gave me was that you don’t need to create a focal point.  If you look at an abstract long enough, you will see one.

So what I will pass on to my artist friends is not to worry about your art.  Enjoy it.  Do what feels good to you.   And if it doesn’t feel good, don’t be afraid to paint over it!
